About Smarketing Ltd

Hello, I’m Lewis, owner at Smarketing Ltd.

Just like an author sharing their journey, I believe it’s important you get to know the person behind the marketing — me. On this page, you’ll find a bit about my professional background, what led me here, and the people and values that matter most to me.

My Professional History

As a school leaver, I felt let down by my educational journey. It felt more like putting people into boxes, than teaching us about the inherent beauty and opportunities in the world. When I left, I went straight into full-time employment with the plan to make some money and tackle life head on.

I landed in the tool and equipment rental sector, working in and around the construction industry — a place that quickly taught me the value of resilience, straight-talking, and cutting through the noise. I moved through various sales roles and found early success by doing things a little differently. I embraced change. I kept a keen eye on results. And most importantly, I refused to settle for sounding like everyone else.

Over time, I climbed the ladder into senior roles, eventually leading entire sales and marketing functions as a Sales Director. My approach has always been simple: Be sharp. Be honest. Be memorable. That’s where the results come from.

The Start of Smarketing

After 12 years in corporate leadership, I realised I was ready for a different kind of challenge. I’d spent years building success for other companies — but I wanted more freedom, more purpose, and more control over the work I did and who I did it for.

That’s where Smarketing began. At first, it was focused on supporting local trades with outsourced marketing and sales strategy — businesses that needed a practical, no-nonsense approach to growth. And while that’s still part of our DNA, Smarketing quickly evolved into something more focused and more fulfilling: helping authors bring their stories into the world with clarity, credibility, and strategy.

Shifting into Author Marketing

I’ve always been an avid reader — particularly drawn to fantasy, sci-fi, and the more imaginative corners of storytelling. And although time is not as generous as it once was, that passion for books never left. Still, I didn’t expect to end up working so closely within the publishing industry.

That changed when I partnered with renowned children’s book illustrators Izzy & Jack. What started as contract-based marketing support for their clients soon evolved into a deeper collaboration. We built an exclusive partnership — offering independent authors a full start-to-finish solution: from editing and illustration, through to publishing, marketing, and advertising. That partnership still stands today, and it’s been the springboard into a creative industry I’ve come to truly enjoy.

Present Day

With 3+ years of children’s book marketing behind me, alongside 12+ years in sales and marketing before that — Smarketing now stands on solid ground. We’ve expanded into new genres too, supporting educational titles, fantasy projects, and books that don’t fit neatly into one category. And that’s the appeal — helping people bring unique stories to life, and giving them the tools to succeed.

I’m always learning, always adjusting, and always interested in new challenges. No one gets everything right first time, and I believe the key is being open to change. If something doesn’t work, fix it. Learn from it. Improve it. That’s how I approach my own business — and how I help my clients do the same.

My Personal Life

I’m happily engaged to my partner, Chloe, and we live together in the UK. We don’t have children (yet), but we do have Hugo, our much-loved Labrador x Golden Retriever, who keeps us busy enough.

We’re both drawn to the outdoors — nature, fresh air, open space, travelling around the world and seeing new places. We travel frequently in our motorhome, exploring the UK and Europe. It’s a lifestyle that keeps us in touch with nature, balanced, and full of stories.

When I’m not working or roaming, you’ll usually find me gaming. I’ve always loved fantasy and sci-fi, and I’m a big fan of story-rich, single-player RPGs. For me, it’s no different to losing yourself in a good book — the immersion, the world-building, the escape.

Chloe and I are also massive board game fans. At one point, we had over 80 in the collection — though we’ve had to slim that down (a little). I’m currently planning, designing and building a completely original board game of my own — combining creative strategy with a touch of fantasy!
